Where did the folk song mallow fling come from?

Mallow Fling or Mallow Flail is an Anglo-Irish love song. It was composed in the early nineteenth century by Samuel Lover and first published in 1839 in his collection of 20 Irish songs, The Lyrics of Ireland, which was compiled for the English sheet-music publisher Willis.
