Why and when the Mexican hat dance began?

Why: The Mexican hat dance originated as a courtship ritual performed by men to impress potential partners. Over time, it evolved into a more general way to show off one's dancing skills.

When: Its exact origins are not known, but there is evidence that the dance emerged sometime during the 18th century, particularly in the northern Mexican states of Nuevo León and Coahuila.
