The Red Hot Salsa begins with heel taps. Tap your right heel four times on counts one through four, then tap your left heel for counts five through eight. Then tap your right heel twice for counts one and two, and tap your left heel twice for counts three and four. Then alternate right, left, right, left for counts five through eight. You have now danced the first two eight counts.
Now the music says, "Rock Forward and Back," so you step forward with your right foot and replace your weight back to your left foot. Then step back with your right foot and replace your weight forward on your left foot. Repeat for counts five through eight. Now, as the song says, "grapevine to your right," which is a step to the right with your right foot, the left foot crosses behind, take another step to the side with your right foot, and tap your left foot together to complete counts one to four. Take a large, sliding step to your left on count five and clap your hands on count eight.
With the right foot, do a kick-ball-change. This means you kick with your right foot, step down on the ball of your right foot, and then change your weight to your left foot. Kick-ball-change again. The counts are one and two, three and four. Tap your right foot out to the right, then your left foot out to the left, right foot out to the right, and then clap on count eight. Repeat the whole phrase starting with the kick-ball change.
Tap forward with your right foot on one, tap together on count two, forward on count three, and together on count four. Tap right and look right on count five, together on six, tap right and look right on seven, and together on count eight. Repeat this phrase, turning on counts seven and eight to dance from the beginning facing the back wall.
