Where did Latin come from?

The Italic languages include Latin, Faliscan, Umbrian, South Picene, and Osco-Umbrian, which itself branched into Marsian and Sabine languages. They appear to have split from the common Proto-Indo-European in the Late Neolithic period. Of these, Latin became dominant in the Italian peninsula and has gone on to the most widely-spoken Italic language.
