What is the traditional dance in Japan?

The traditional dance in Japan is Nihon buyo (日本舞踊) or the Japanese classical dance.

- This combines elements of kabuki, bunraku (puppet theatre), folk dance and dance styles of the geisha and maiko of Kyoto.

- This traditional performing art form that developed from the dance, narrative dance drama and group pantomime theatre traditions that were popular across all strata of Japanese culture from around the middle of the eighteenth century.

- Today it consists of five major schools and has evolved to become not only the main artistic element performed by geisha during ozashiki events, but a recognized concert stage art performed worldwide
