What inspired Louis Armstrong to play trumpet?

Louis Armstrong was inspired to play the trumpet by Bunk Johnson, a legendary New Orleans trumpeter. Johnson was Armstrong's mentor, teaching him the basics of playing the trumpet and introducing him to the world of jazz. Armstrong was also inspired by other early jazz musicians such as Joe "King" Oliver and Sidney Bechet.
