Was Ella Fitzgerald the first female jazz singer?

Ella Fitzgerald was not the first female jazz singer. One of the earliest female jazz singers was Mamie Smith, who is often remembered as the "First Lady of the Blues". She came to prominence during the 1920s with hits like "Crazy Blues", which were immensely popular. Others include Bessie Smith, Ida Cox, Ma Rainey, Lucille Hegamin, and Alberta Hunter.
