Night Clubs in Abbotsford, Canada

The last of what Vancouverites or others from most major cities would label as a nightclub closed in Abbotsford in 2008. In a move by city council to restrict business hours, the Luxor, no longer able to stay open until 2 a.m., when it made its money, was forced to close. Nightclub in this town went back to its original meaning, that of having a place to go to cheer on the Vancouver Canucks hockey team or the BC Lyons of the Canadian Football League. You can still go out and dance, drink and party, but the surroundings tend to be more country-minded, rather than flashy neon.
  1. Cheers Bar and Grill

    • This purveyor of food and drink may carry the name of a famous American TV show bar, but it is pure Canadian. Walk into this sports bar during a Canucks game and you will find hockey coming at you from over 30 TVs scattered throughout the place. The game almost seems life size from the 9-foot HD flat screen that is the focal point of it all.

The locals come down for bar treats, such as wings, nachos and burgers, and more substantial meals of grilled chicken, New York steak and homemade lasagna. All of those tempting treats are washed down by oceans of beer, wine and assorted liquors from the full bar.

Cheers Bar and Grill is located two blocks north of South Fraser way, north of Centennial Park. Closing times vary. If the Canucks are playing and they win, the celebrations tend to go on just a bit.

    Blue Ridge Bar and Grill

    • The Blue Ridge Bar and Grill is a restaurant, but it also has a lounge and dance floor onsite. The Abbotsford Times, the local paper, designated the establishment as the number one lounge/pub in the city for 2008 with the awarding of the Reader’s Choice Award.

Music ranges from Top 40 to Hip Hop, all kept moving by the live DJ, Kaotik. On the weekends, Blue Ridge features Retro Saturdays, mixing 80s and 90s music with current hits.

Blue Ridge Bar and Grill is at Townline Road and Blueridge Drive across from the Centre Ice Sports Arena.

Duke of Dublin Olde Irish Pub

    • If you find yourself in Abbotsford and just happen to walk into the Duke of Dublin, chances are you will feel that you have been transported back to the Old Sod. It is filled with all the nooks and crannies expected in an Irish pub. The long polished hardwood bar is framed with an assortment of beers and whiskeys that would make Ireland proud.

The restaurant serves up local favorites like West Coast Grilled Salmon and Baby Back Ribs as well as old country Bangers & Mash and Shepherd’s Pie. There is also plenty of Guinness on tap to go with it.

Entertainment wise Dukes attracts artists from across Canada. Some nights the music is a mixture of the reels and ballads of Ireland by local artists such as the Bachands. Others it could be New Orleans jazz with a rock twist from Canadian born Gary Comeau.

Dukes is 2 blocks east of McCallum Road north of the Trans Canada Highway (Highway 1).
