When did rap first start date?

Rap's origins have been dated to the early 1970s, originating from the Bronx, New York City. This musical style was originally part of the hip-hop culture, influenced by African American and Latino communities. DJ Kool Herc is often acknowledged as the "Father of Hip-Hop," as he started to isolate drum breaks from funk, soul, and disco records, which allowed MCs (masters of ceremonies) to "rap," or rhythmically speak, over the beats. Over time, rap developed into a distinct musical genre with complex flows, lyrical content, and sub-genres like gangsta rap, conscious rap, and political rap.
