What is maglatik folkdance?

The Maglalatik or Pandanggo sa Ilaw folkdance originates from the province of Pangasinan. This lively courtship dance features bamboo poles and oil lamps (tinghoy) that move gracefully as the rhythmic clapping, stomping, and tapping create music for this energetic performance.

Two or more pairs usually perform it. While women elegantly wave, swing, and transfer oil lamps from one hand to another above their heads, men rhythmically strike their bamboo poles on the ground, hitting those held by the female dancers, or clacking them against each other.
