Step 1: Basic Step
1. In pairs or fours, stand facing each other, with the castanets in one hand and the other hand at the waist.
2. Slide the right foot forward, then tap the left foot next to it.
3. Slide the left foot to the left side, then tap the right foot next to it.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3, alternating feet.
This basic step can be used throughout the dance.
Step 2: Twirling the castanets
1. While doing the basic step, hold the castanets loosely and use your wrist to twirl them around.
2. Alternatively, you can twirl the castanets in one hand while tapping your foot with the other hand.
Step 3: Turning Steps
1. Take a few basic steps, then on the next step, turn your body 180 degrees while continuing to tap your feet to the beat.
2. Repeat this turning step, alternating directions.
Step 4: Arm Movements
1. Add some arm movements to your dance by raising your arms up, out to the sides, or overhead.
2. You can also use your arms to "dance" with your partner or neighboring dancers.
Step 5: Finishing Steps
1. To end the dance, come to a stop with both feet together and hold your castanets up high.
2. Bow to your audience or partners and smile!
