Join a dance group or work individually with a dance instructor. You will get the support of others and soon remembering the steps will be routine.
Practice with a partner or practice with a group of friends and make it fun. You can turn the task of remembering the steps into fun when you include other people.
Dance with the music on. Let the music guide you through the steps. Once you've practiced a couple of times, the music will remind you when to change your steps.
Draw a diagram of the steps, if you are a visual learner. Many dance books include footprints outlining the dance routines. Use these footprints to guide your dancing, so that you can visualize the steps in head as you move around the floor.
Break the dance steps into smaller parts and practice each piece separately. When you feel you know one part of the dance, move on the next part of the dance. Then put all the pieces together.
Remember the basics: know your left from your right and how to count to four. Many dance steps follow a one, two, three and four pattern. Listen to the music and count the beat so you know when to move your feet in time with the music.
