How to Do Dance Club Steps

Dancing in a club can be intimidating if you are not confident about your dancing moves. By learning some basic movements, and, more importantly, teaching yourself to feel the rhythm in the music and pick up on the beats, you will improve your dancing skills. Dancing can lead to social interaction and dates, so improving your skills may boost your social life as well as confidence.

Instructions

    • 1

Play some club-style or hip hop music, and sway and bounce to the beat. If you have trouble finding or keeping track of the beat, try tapping something, such as a cup with a spoon. You could also flick the lights in time to the music to help you internalize the beat.

Watch music videos on television stations such as MTV or VH1 to pick up some basic moves. The actual dance steps will likely be too choreographed and intricate to use in an ordinary club, but the videos can give you some starting direction.

    • 3

Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and your arms at your sides. Step forward with your right foot, crossing it in front of your left. Then, bring your left foot forward even with your right foot. Repeat by stepping forward with your left foot, crossing it in front of the right. Move your right food forward even with your left foot. This will give you a basic combination to keep your body moving to the music in simple, clean steps.

    • 4

Add some hip and shoulder movements when you are comfortable with the steps. Pop your hips to the side you are stepping forward with. So, if you step right, swivel your hips right. When you step left, move them left. Add some subtle shoulder rolls in time with the hips and the music.

    • 5

Cross your arms in front and swing outward from your body each time you do a cross step to add an additional element. Keep your arms loose, not rigid or stiff, and engage your shoulders in the motion.

    • 6

Bend your knees slightly to add some swagger to the movements and ground your steps.

    • 7

Watch yourself in the mirror to help perfect your steps and movements.
