What is the dance step in dancing a dugso dance?

Dugso, a Filipino folk dance from Visayas, is performed with various graceful dance steps, movements, and turns:

Basic Step/Shuffle Step:

- Dancers begin in a double parallel line facing their partners.

- They shuffle their feet sideways (left to right and right to left) while slightly bouncing to the rhythmic music.

Step and Clap/Palakpak:

- This movement involves alternate tapping of the feet on the ground and clapping (usually twice).

Turn and Clap/Liko:

- As dancers complete the step and clap movement, they pivot clockwise by taking two consecutive half-step turns. Every half-turn accompanies a synchronized clap of their own hands (once) followed by hand claps with their partner (thrice).

Stomp Step/Hakbang:

- On one measure of music, dancers simultaneously step or stomp forward or backward with one foot while holding the position for a short count.

Tap Toe/Tukod Tuhod:

- One leg steps sideways while bending to gently tap the toe/shin against the knee of the supporting leg.

Hand Movements:

- During all these footwork sections, the arms and hands gracefully complement the dancing movements, adding rhythmic elements and visual charm to the dugso dance.

These steps in dugso may differ slightly as there can be several forms of dugso from different areas within the Visayas region.
