Under 21 Dance Clubs in Chicago

Chicago has lots of entertainment and dance clubs, and a good number of them allow customers under 21. Those that do allow younger people inside typically are pretty busy places, so it's best to arrive early or take public transportation so there are no worries about where to park.
  1. Club Volkan

    • The Volkan Night Club is located in the Little Village neighborhood. It offers DJs, music videos, and live music on three separate floors, and they even have poles for dancing. The music ranges from merengue to hip-hop to rock and roll, depending on who is the DJ. The bouncers and bartenders are friendly, and there are ladies' nights during the week. Get there early to find parking, or take public transportation, and keep in mind there's a dress code. The code is clubby/trendy, and sneakers are a definite no-no.

    Club Mambo

    • In the Irving Park neighborhood, Club Mambo caters to those 17 and over with state-of-the art lighting, great sound and a huge projection screen. Up to 1,500 people can party at one time. Latin music is the main theme, but they also include some reggae and house music to appeal to a wider audience. Mambo has been open a long time in Chicago, and served as a first gig for many of the current DJs in the big downtown clubs. They rotate the schedule from international acts to DJs, and even have LGBT-themed Wild Thursdays. Friday night is the unofficial college night, and the place is usually packed. The attached Cafe Mambo is good for dinner or late-night munchies.

    Smart Bar

    • Smart Bar is located in the Lakeview neighborhood, in the far northern end of the city. It attracts good bands and DJs from around the world, so it is a fairly busy place. Parking is decidedly limited, so taking the El train might be a better alternative to walking a long distance from where the car is parked. Drinks are less expensive here than in downtown bars, and the atmosphere is more casual. The Smart Bar is divided into a lounge area in the front and dance floor in the rear, with a bar in each. They have good security and friendly employees, and no yuppie attitudes in sight. Late-night alcohol licenses mean that main acts sometimes don't start until one a.m.
