Pray regarding the decision to introduce dance as part of the worship team within the congregation. While there may be people opposed to the idea, prayer and proper planning may help them come to the realization that dance is a beautiful expression of worship to God.
Present a dance ministry proposal to church leadership. This should include requirements for a dance director and guidelines for dance ministry in the church such as structure, qualifications of team members, dress code and a proposed schedule of meetings. Also, include a schedule of opportunities to use dance in the church.
Choose a dance director. The dance ministry leader needs to be someone that God has “elected” to this position and she is submissive to the authority of the church where she serves. She needs to possess dance skills, but does need to be the most talented dancer on the team.
Schedule an informational meeting to introduce dance ministry to the church and invite people to join the dance team. Provide a dance presentation, or show dance videos at the initial meeting to convey a concise visual of dance intended for the church.
Form a dance team. Send out a questionnaire to church members to find people with past dance experience or training who may be interested in joining the team.
Choose dance styles and music that fit the vision of the congregation and the ability of the dancers.
