How to Dance Like Shakira

Shakira is a Latin pop star known for her talented vocals in both English and Spanish, and for her unique dance moves. Shakira's dancing style is a combination of different dance techniques that she has incorporated into her movements. She combines both belly dancing and hip hop moves in her performance. Shakira uses all of her body in her dance, but focuses on the hips, stomach, butt and legs.

      Practice the art of belly dancing. Shakira was inspired by belly dancing at a young age and decided to bring it into her own dancing. She uses a lot of stomach rolls and figure eight movements with her hips which are both rooted in belly dancing techniques.

      Use sharp thrust movements forward and back with your hips and rib cage. Shakira uses these hip hop moves in most of her work. When practicing these thrusts, isolate your hips or rib cage, moving only that part of your body with your hands loose at the sides.

      Shimmy your shoulders. Do this by moving one shoulder at a time slightly forward and then switch with the other one. Do this slowly at first then gradually pick up the speed until you feel comfortable with it. You can put your arms wherever they are comfortable for you.

      Practice shaking the back side of your body. Shakira does a lot of hip, butt and leg shakes, all rooted in belly dancing and hip hop. Start off by moving your hips to the side slowly in a rhythm with the knees bent. Double the rhythm so the hips move a little faster. Then double that rhythm, making your hips shake. Your butt and legs will naturally go along with the hips.

      Put the movements from Steps 1 through 4 together, smoothly changing between each one. Try going through the movements with a Latin beat.
