When did Irish dance start?
Irish step dance has roots that date back thousands of years. Sean-nós dancing (pronounced shan nosh) is the original form of Irish step dance. It is rooted in the traditions of the Gaelic, and it dates back to the 1700s. However, the dance form that is most popular and that most will be familiar with today, with its rapid leg and feet movements, emerged on the stages in Dublin by the 1920s and 1930s.
