How to Find Articles for Newspaper Reprinting

Starting a new newspaper can be daunting. You need to hire reporters, find a sales staff and locate a cost-efficient printer or purchase your own equipment. A small reporting staff can effectively report on all aspects of the local scene, but it's also nice to include national news into your publication. Look to syndication or a news wire service to include such stories in your newspaper. Contact other local newspapers as well to include regional news.

Talk to small local newspapers. Many will trade local stories or leads to boost content and fill pages. Ask the editor or publisher about a specific story to reprint or have a contract written for ongoing article sharing. You may also consider trading or linking online stories like blogs or discussion boards between the publications.

Contact large market newspapers in your region. Though the publication will likely still want to be the first to publish a particular story, the editor or publisher may sell reprint rights for hot topics or breaking stories. Help from larger publications also serves to flush out stories that your busy local reporters don't have time to investigate fully.

Use a reprint service like that found at www.ordermyreprint.com. This service contacts the publication for you. All you need is the location, publication date and/or headline of the piece to be reprinted. You may order full or minimized prints and have them framed or posted onto a plaque.

Consider contacting the source. If a story has been printed which you feel may be of interest to your local readers, call the source or a similar expert or witness. Retell the story through their eyes or expertise and give the story a local spin, engaging your readers.
