How to Do the Wave Break Dancing Move

Break dancing combines so many facets of movement. You must have speed, agility, strength and rhythm just to pull off even the basics. But with a little dedication, (and some bumps and bruises along the way) you'll be "hittin' the streets" or at least impressing people on the streets in no time with your wave move.

Instructions

    • 1

Focus on every joint you have in your body. The wave is a little move that many people work into an overall routine when break dancing. While it may look complicated, it is actually just the idea of bending each joint in your body as it leads to the next. Take a moment to notice your wrist, elbow, shoulder, head, shoulder, elbow and wrist. That same thought process is how you're going to pass the wave from one part of your body to the other.

    • 2

Flex your wrist in one direction. (It doesn't matter which, just as long as the movement is firm and specific.)

    • 3

Bend your elbow in the opposite direction. Do this a split second after you move your wrist.

    • 4

Raise your shoulder toward your head. This will make it start to seem as something is traveling throughout your body.

    • 5

Tilt your head to the side. Think of an electric current pulsating through as each joint is affected.

    • 6

Lower the opposite shoulder. Remember to keep your body nimble and each joint specific and purposeful as you bend.

    • 7

Extend your elbow and finish the wave by collapsing your wrist. You have now completed the wave once throughout your body. Now the trick is to repeat the wave, focusing on making it faster, while at the same time getting other joints like your ankles, knees and waist (simply bend slightly) in the mix. Just remember to pass through each joint to make the wave consistent.
