How to Perform Basic Ballet Moves

Practicing basic ballet moves is helpful for performers interested in contortion. Basic ballet moves are also helpful for many types of performers because ballet is the foundation of all other dance forms. Two basic ballet moves helpful for contortion performers are the posse and develope.

    • 1

      Stand in first position.

    • 2

Raise your right leg up, touching your toes to your knee. Your right knee will be facing directly to your right side, forming a letter "P" with your legs. Stop when your right knee is as high as your right hip.

    • 3

Balance in posse for as long as you can.

    • 4

Lower your right leg to first position.

    Develope

    • 7

    • 8

Raise your right leg to a posse as described in Section 1, Step 2.

Pull your right leg up and bring your knee up as close to your body as you can.

    • 10

Extend your leg from the knee gradually until your leg is completely outstretched with your big toe pointing toward the ceiling.

    • 11

Hold your develope for as long as possible.

    • 12

Lower your right leg back to posse by reversing the motions in Steps 3 through 5.

    • 13
