Why did Ralph Emerson write the poem The Concord Hymn?

Ralph Waldo Emerson did not write The Concord Hymn. It was written by Ralph Waldo Emerson's cousin Rev. Dr. William Emerson, who was the Minister of the First Parish in Concord, Massachusetts, from 1799 until his death in 1811.
