Act 1:
- Hermia loves Lysander, but her father wants her to marry Demetrius.
- Helena loves Demetrius, but he loves Hermia.
- Oberon, king of the fairies, and Titania, his queen, argue over a changeling boy.
- Oberon sends Puck, a mischievous fairy, to put love potion into Demetrius's eyes so he will love Helena.
Act 2:
- Puck mistakes Lysander for Demetrius and puts the potion in Lysander's eyes.
- When Lysander wakes up, he falls in love with Helena and forgets Hermia.
- Hermia is heartbroken, and Titania wakes up and falls in love with Bottom, a weaver with a donkey's head.
Act 3:
- Oberon realizes his mistake and restores Titania's love.
- Demetrius also falls in love with Helena because of the love potion.
- Four lovers agree to marry: Lysander and Helena, Demetrius and Hermia.
- Bottom wakes up and returns to his friends, who think he has been dreaming.
Act 4:
- Titania and Oberon bless the four couples.
- The fairies perform a dance, and the play ends with a celebration of love and marriage.
