What is Augustan Poetry?

Augustan poetry is a term used to describe the literature produced during the reign of Augustus Caesar in ancient Rome. It was characterized by a return to traditional values, a focus on public service and a celebration of the achievements of the Roman Empire. Augustan poetry was often written in a high, elevated style, and was often used to promote the political agenda of the emperor and his court. Some of the most famous poets of the Augustan period include Virgil, Horace, and Ovid.
