How a Bill Becomes Law
A bill is born in the mind of a legislator,
A spark of an idea, a desire for change.
It is drafted and introduced,
And the legislative process begins.
The bill is debated and amended,
In committees and on the floor.
It is voted on, and if it passes,
It goes to the other chamber.
The process is repeated,
And if the bill passes both chambers,
It is sent to the president.
The president can sign the bill into law,
Or veto it.
If the president signs the bill,
It becomes law.
If the president vetoes the bill,
Congress can override the veto.
The process of passing a bill into law
Can be long and difficult,
But it is an essential part of democracy.
It allows citizens to have a voice in their government,
And to make sure that the laws that are passed
Are in the best interests of the country.
