Make a list of all of the qualities that you adore about your husband. Think about the physical traits that you appreciate --- everything from his head to his toes that you love --- and add them to your list. Next, list his emotional qualities that you admire: Does he have a particularly good sense of humor? Does he have any funny habits? Does he remember the dates that are important to you?
Write down three things that you have done together; these can be special memories that you share, obstacles that you have overcome, or goals that you have achieved. The important thing is that they are moments that reaffirm how much your husband means to you and how much stronger you are together.
Expand on your previous list by writing some details under each of your three "moments" listed in Step 2. For instance, if one of your entries was your wedding day, write some details about what, specifically, you loved about your wedding day.
Write down three dreams that the two of you share together --- moments in your future when you will want to look around and see him standing by your side.
Construct your poem using your three lists from the previous steps as a template. Begin with a verse about your husband himself, taking your list of qualities and composing them into phrases making up your first verse. Then, depending on how long you want your poem to be, take one or two (or all) of your detailed items of treasured memories, and turn each one into an individual verse. Finally, repeat this exercise with the list of dreams and ambitions that the two of you have together.
Write your completed poem on a sheet of high-quality colored paper. If you wish to type the poem using word-processing software and then print it onto the paper, that is fine; however, remember that there's nothing quite like receiving a hand-written poem.
