Know that it's relatively simple to utilize your senses in poetry as long as make sure to leave yourself open to experiences. Throughout your day, take notes about each of your five senses. Here is an example of what you may write on a windy day: My eyes felt dry and papery because the wind was blowing on them.My nose smelled smoke in the wind.My tongue became dry and tasteless as the cold wind rushed in.My skin became red and flushed.I was hard of hearing because the wind was noisy.
Consider that all of your observations, like the ones from Step 1, can be used in your poetry. Most people have experienced snow to some extent. Go through the list of senses and brainstorm the feelings that you had from the snow. Write them down and try to incorporate them into your poem.
Write about what you know. If you are writing about snow, and you have never been in snow, then it is going to be clear in your poetry. Use experiences that you have actually experienced with your senses. Otherwise, you will just come up with cliched images.
