How to Make a Name Poem Using Numerology

For poetry variation, merge the format of acrostic poems with numerology to describe a character, real or imagined. Choose a person from history, a role model, family member or yourself. Brainstorm a list of personality traits of the given name using colorful adjectives and verbs. Determine motivation and strengths when generating words. This form of poetry is a skillful method to show what the writer knows about a particular character.

    • 1

Consult a numerology chart to analyze a person's self, life directions and guidance based upon numbers. The chart takes a set of data derived from the combination of birth date and full name. Go online (see Resources) for an effective, interactive tool for name reading using numerology. The chart produces numerical values (the most important being core numbers), traits and characteristics. Use strengths and weaknesses to illustrate the person in depth.

    • 2

Craft an acrostic poem by writing the letters of the individual's name vertically down the side of page. Write the numerical value from the numerology reading next to each letter. Next, add the word descriptions associated with each letter. For more detail, include the tarot card assigned to the number and letter. This will supply a visual when creating the poem.

    • 3

Make a comprehensive traits list using the thesaurus to find synonyms of the description words. For example, on the numerology chart, the letter R characteristics are patient, determined, and strong. Look up these words to find a synonym beginning with the letter R--resolute, robust or resilient. Make certain to use each letter in the name as the beginning of the line. The R might look like this: Robust as the wise, old moon.

Search through the dictionary when a synonym does not support the given letter. Get creative. For example, if the letter at the beginning of the line is Y but the synonyms for that letter's descriptors are brave, daring, charismatic or bold, choose another adjective or verb to go before the descriptive word: "Y -- Youthful and bold cavalier." Continue in this format. Employ all the letters of the person's name.

Read the poem aloud. Go back and make necessary changes. Describing MISTY ROSE might look something like this acrostic poem:
Maker in the heart of darkness
      Independent, often solitary
Sharp-witted under the age of the sun
      Trustworthy under fire
      Youthful and bold cavalier
Robust as the wise, old moon
Optimist in the face of a common beast
      Sensitive as the brightest star
      Enterprising writer of solemnity
