Open your mission statement with two or three paragraphs that immediately tell who you are or what your organization is, what the purpose of your organization is, and why the your organization's mission is what it is. If you're writing a mission statement for a drug- and alcohol-rehabilitation center, for instance, the opening of your mission statement might read something like this:
"Acme Rehabilitation Center is a drug- and alcohol-rehabilitation center established in June 2003 to combat the growing dangers of drug and alcohol abuse in our society."
Write a brief summary following the introduction of your company that expands on the purpose you introduced in the first paragraphs. For the rehab center's mission statement, a brief paragraph or two about some of the problems caused by drug and alcohol abuse would be appropriate.
Start the final paragraph of your mission statement with "It is our mission to," and then directly state the mission of your company. For the treatment center's mission statement, the closing paragraph might read: "It is our mission to provide low-cost drug- and alcohol-addiction treatment and care to everyone, regardless of race or religion, and to help ensure that anyone who wants to lead a healthy. sober life has the opportunity to do so."
