How to Write a Christian Non-Fiction Book Proposal

Although there is really no difference between writing a Christian nonfiction proposal and a general nonfiction proposal, there is a difference between writing the proposal for Christian nonfiction and a query letter for Christian fiction. When writing Christian fiction, the manuscript is completed before you attempt to find someone to publish it. If you are sending in a Christian nonfiction book proposal, however, you are primarily pitching an idea about the project that you wish to write.

Instructions

    • 1

Type a title page for your Christian nonfiction book proposal in a word-processing program on your computer. Place the title about one-third of the way down on your paper and include your contact information, such as name, address and phone number below it.

    • 2

Write an overview that explains the subject of your book. The overview is typically a one- to three-page statement that explains the topic matter that you will include in the book.

    • 3

Discuss, in your typed document, the market aspects of your book. Explain what groups of people you think might be interested in reading your Christian nonfiction book.

    • 4

Give comparisons and analysis between your book and other books that are already published. This section of the proposal allows you to give a reason why your book is needed even if there are other books already written on the subject.

    • 5

Use your bio to sell yourself. Give information as to why you are an expert in the field and qualified to write the book. In your proposal, include a list of previous books or articles that you have written.

    • 6

Provide information about how you intend to promote the book. Tell whether you will use social networking, conferences or speaking engagements to help sell your book.

    • 7

Include a chapter outline and chapter abstract of your book. The chapter outline gives a detailed table of contents about the proposed chapters, while the chapter abstract briefly explains what each chapter will contain.

    • 8

Submit the first two to three chapters of the book. Use Courier New or Times New Roman as the writing font and double-space the chapter pages.
