    • 1

Choose your theme. Think about what makes you, you. Consider your passions, hobbies or interests. If you already keep a diary or a blog, read it through and look for topics that come up regularly. If you spend a lot of time socializing, make a magazine about the people in your life; or maybe you have a favorite sport that you could write about. Create a personal magazine to commemorate special event or time in your life, such as a holiday, family wedding or high school graduation.

    • 2

Gather your material. Collect clippings from magazines and the Internet, letters, blog posts and diary entries that relate to your theme and inspire you.

    • 3

Create a file on your computer to store the photographs, blog posts and articles that you will use in your magazine. If you don't have any suitable photos already, take new digital photos. If you are making a magazine about a past event, get your friends together and re-enact scenes from the event to photograph.

    • 4

Interview people. If your magazine is about an event, ask your subjects about their memories and impressions. If you are writing about your favorite sport, interview your instructor. Write to magazine editors, fan clubs or discussion groups. Look at other magazine interviews for inspiration and prepare your questions in advance. Use a notebook or Dictophone to record notes, and type up your interview while it is still fresh in your mind. Save the document to your magazine file.

Write a feature. Make it personal; tell a story, write out your thoughts or just have a rant. Give the article a clear beginning, which introduces the topic and lures the reader in, a middle, which expands on the topic and an end which rounds the article off.

    • 6

Design your layout using Microsoft Office Word 2007 or a similar word processing program. If you use Word, open a new file by clicking "File">"New">"Blank Document".

    • 7

Rotate the document so that it is in landscape view by clicking "Page Layout">"Orientation">"Landscape".

    • 8

Create two columns by clicking "Page Layout">"Columns">"Two". Arrange your text by cutting and pasting documents from your magazine file. Remember that the finished magazine will be made up of double-sided printed pages bound together, so think carefully about your page order.

    • 9

Insert pictures by clicking "Insert">"Picture", then browsing through your magazine materials file and selecting the appropriate picture. Experiment with the features in the picture tools format tab to resize your image, move it around and wrap text around it until all you materials are in place and you are happy with the layout.

    • 10

Print out your pages using the duplex function on the print menu.

    • 11

Fold the printed pages in half length-ways, nest them together in the right order and staple down the central crease with two evenly spaced staples.
