How does Mary Warren save herself from a whipping?

Abigail accuses Mary of witchcraft, and Mary counters the accusations by blaming Abigail for leading the girls and pretending to be afflicted. Mary pretends to be powerless against Abigail, and when she is confronted with the evidence against her, she eventually turns on the other girls and accuses them of lying. Hale is convinced of Mary's innocence, and he refuses to let Proctor be arrested for witchcraft. Ultimately, Mary is able to save herself by accusing the other girls and changing her story to align with Hale's beliefs.
