When did physical theatre?
The origins of physical theatre date back to ancient times. Elements of physical theatre can be found in rituals, ceremonies and performances from many cultures around the world. In the Western tradition, physical theatre has its roots in the Greek theatre, where movement and dance were an integral part of the performances. In the Middle Ages, physical theatre was used in religious rituals and pageants. During the Renaissance, physical theatre was revived and developed by Italian actors and playwrights such as Commedia dell'Arte and the Elizabethan theatre in England. In the 19th and 20th centuries, physical theatre continued to develop, with the emergence of new forms such as mime, expressionist dance, and experimental theatre.
