William Burns and George Burns were not related. William Burns (1859-1895) was a British detective remembered as the founder of the "modern" Secret Service. George Burns (1896-1996) was an American comedian, actor, and writer, best known as one-half of the comedy team Burns and Allen, with his wife, Gracie Allen.
