ELECTRONIC BATTLESHIP

INSTRUCTION MANUAL

INTRODUCTION

Electronic Battleship is a game of submarine warfare for 2 players. You command a fleet of 5 ships ranging from the huge aircraft carrier to the small patrol boat. Your opponent faces you with a fleet identical to your own. Electronic "radar" helps you pinpoint your opponent's ships. The first player to sink 5 of his opponent's ships is declared the winner.

CONTENTS

Each game includes the following:

Two game units Two pairs of target grids Four plastic pegs One instruction manual

ASSEMBLY

Remove all parts from the packing tray and check against the contents to make sure all parts are present. Fold up the two game unit covers. Slide the grid in front of each unit. Connect your unit to your opponent's unit with the connector cord provided.

OBJECT

The object of the game is to sink your opponent's fleet of ships by using radar signals.

SETUP

1. Each player chooses a color and places his ships in the grid according to the numbers on their hulls.

2. Player 1 sets the target coordinates for his ships. Player 2 sets his target coordinates.

TARGET COORDINATES

When you set target coordinates, you tell your unit where to display hits and misses. There are 10 rows(A-J) and 10 columns(0-9) on your grid. Your first ship (aircraft carrier) is 5 long, so you need 5 consecutive hits to sink it. You should place your first coordinate in the middle of the grid (i.e., "E-5") This assures that you have enough space on either side of your ship for hits. Your second coordinate should be one above the first (eg. "D-5") Then "C-5" "B-5" and "A-5".

PLAYING THE GAME

1. Decide which player will go first.

2. Player 1 announces the coordinates of a target square he has selected. (e.g. "E-5") Set the indicator light on your unit to match this square and press the fire button.

3. Listen to the tone produced by your opponent's unit.

4. Refer to the tone indicator on your opponent's unit to see hit his ship.

5. Player 1 marks his hit or miss on his target grid. Player 1 again announces a coordinate; fire and record as player 2 did earlier.

6. Play alternates between players until one player has sunk all of his opponent's ships.

PLAYER'S UNIT FEATURES

Fire Button

Press this to send your radar pulse.

Target Indicator

This light will show the coordinates of your target on both your grid and your opponent's grid.

Radar Indicator

The LED's in this display indicate the target square and either a Hit ("H"), a Miss ("M") or "Not Fired".

Tone Indicators

These lights will show you the tone produced by your opponent's unit. Each ship produces its own unique tone which corresponds with the length of that ship.

Battery Check Indicator

This light indicates whether your unit has enough battery life. If it does not light, you must replace the batteries.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If your game unit does not operate properly, check the following:

1. Are the batteries installed properly?

2. Are the batteries weak or dead?

3. Is the connector cord plugged in securely?

4. Are the target grids properly inserted?

NOTES

1. Only one player should fire at a time.

2. The same coordinates can be tried in turn as many times as you wish, but they count only once.

3. If there is any difficulty in understanding whether your fire was a hit or a miss, both players must agree on the result

REPLACEMENT PARTS

If any of your game parts become lost or broken, replacements can be ordered through the parts ordering services of the Milton Bradley Company.
