Little Prince Cupcake Ideas

"The Little Prince," Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's novel based on his own life experiences, features prominent characters and basic but powerful themes. If you're teaching the book and its concepts in school or having a gathering of your book club to discuss this novel, try making some of these cupcakes featuring the central figures of the story.
  1. Crown

    • The title character of the novel embodies the innocence and hope of childhood. To represent the little prince, decorate cupcakes with crowns. Spread a thin layer of white icing on the top of each cupcake. Roll out yellow store-bought or homemade fondant, and cut out crown shapes using a cookie cutter or by hand. Use colored icing to add balls at the top of each point and a strip across the bottom of the crown.

    Fox

    • The fox plays a major role in this story, teaching important lessons and helping the little prince to discover things about himself. Create fox-themed cupcakes to portray this pivotal character. Cut marshmallows into the shape of large ears, attaching them to the cupcake with icing. Pipe reddish-brown icing all over the top half of the cupcake and marshmallow ears to imitate fur. On the bottom of the cupcake, pipe white icing "fur." Create two white eyes of icing and two black pupils, plus a black nose at the center where the icing colors meet.

    Rose

    • The rose is a central figure of love in the novel, causing the little prince to leave his planet to explore and ultimately provoking his decision to return. Make rose cupcakes for your party with the help of red fruit leather candy. Separate a roll along the center wavy perforation. Wind one half tightly and use it as the center of the rose on a frosted cupcake. Loosely wrap the other half from the center outward in a spiral to form the other petals.

    Snake

    • In this story, the snake is a fixed figure, representing death and posing constant riddles to the prince. For the guests at your little prince-themed gathering, create a snake made of cupcakes. Arrange 10 to 12 iced cupcakes in the shape of a bent snake on a serving plate. Using small round candies of assorted colors, create a pattern on the cupcake tops to simulate a diamondback design on a snake. On the first cupcake, add eyes with a contrasting color of candy and a pointed tongue cut from red fruit leather.
