A movie-themed yearbook uses popular movies, both current and classical, to commemorate the year's activities. An outline of a filmstrip might surround student pictures. Quotes and themes from the movie "Remember the Titans" might be included in the story of the football team's journey to the championship game. Quotes and themes from favorite high school movies like "The Breakfast Club," "Pretty in Pink," "Bring It On" and "Napoleon Dynamite" all provide ways to ingrain the history of cinema with the memories of high school life.
A historically themed yearbook can take its cues from the community in which the school resides. If the town was once a pioneer village, the theme of the book might be pioneer-flavored. The article titles could retain use of the pioneer spirit, from the football games to the prom. The book's design can include a leather look, with covered wagons, campfires, blacksmith tools and livestock surrounding the stories inside. Other historically themed ideas include Civil War locations, the Roaring '20s, the '60s, the yuppie era '80s and the grunge era '90s.
A hero-themed yearbook takes the idea of being a hero and carries it throughout the yearbook. For a more traditional hero, the sports articles can include various local sports heroes who made it big. Pictures of the former players can stand side-by-side with photos of the kids who play sports for the school in the present day. If anyone from the school has risen to a prominent position in business or politics, display them side-by-side with students working on getting their degrees in those fields right now. It is also possible to present everyday heroes in the form of firefighters, police officers and medical personnel throughout the book. Do not forget to include teachers as heroes as well.
