How to Download Books From Google

Google has created an online library of books called Google Books that enables anyone to have access to full or partial copies of books and bibliographic information. Full view of books is usually allowed for books that have expired copyrights such as those in the public domain or have been permitted by the copyright owner. Often, these same books are also available for download at no cost. You can save other files that aren't available for download in your online library if you have a Google account.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to Google Books by typing http://books.google.com/books in the address bar of your browser. You can also access it through the Google Search menu by selecting “Menu” and then “Books”.

    • 2

Enter the book or a subject in the search box that appears on Google Books page to find what you want to download. You can also pick a genre from the menu on the left.

    • 3

Choose “Public Domain Only” from the menu on the left if you wish to search for only books that are available for download. Most newer books will not have a download option in Google Books because of copyright laws.

    • 4

Select the title of the book you are interested in from the search results. You will then see a digital file of your book with detail information. Look for the menu on the right that specifies the choices of “Plain Text,” “Clip,” “Link,” “Feedback” or “Download.”

    • 5

Select “Download” from the menu and then choose either PDF or EPUB format. A PDF file can be opened with Adobe Reader and EPUB is the typical e-book format used on readers.

    • 6

Select “Save File” and choose a location to save your digital book on your computer.
