Clement C. Moore’s “The Night Before Christmas” was included in the list of the top five best-selling children’s books, by the “New York Times”, in December 2009. While the book may have made it to No. 3 on the list due to its seasonal content, the book is an example of an old classic being a bestseller. The story is actually a Christmas poem about Santa Claus, which was first published in the early 1800s under the title “A Visit from St. Nicholas."
“Nubs” written by Brian Dennis, Mary Nethery and Kirby Larson was published in November 2009 and made it to No.4 on the best selling children’s book list at the “New York Times” in December 2009. “Nubs” is a true story of an Iraqi dog of war and the marine who formed a unique friendship with the canine. The book teaches children a little about life in a war zone, while appealing to the dog lover.
J. K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” series is a best selling collection about the adventures of the young and talented wizard, Harry Potter and his friends. The first book in the series was published in 1997, and more than 19 million copies of the last book sold in 2007. That year, the “New York Times” reported that the final book in the series was becoming the fastest-selling book in history.
After the final book in the Harry Potter series was released, the booksellers, according to Publisher's Weekly, did not believe another series could take its place. Yet the “Twilight” series, by Stephenie Meyer, sold more than 27 million copies of the vampire novels within the first two years of their release. The books are aimed at teens and young adults.
