Open a new document and set your margins. The default WordPerfect settings are for 1-inch margins all the way around, which is typical for book manuscripts. Go to the "Format" menu and select "Line" followed by "Spacing." Set your line spacing to 2. This is standard for a book manuscript. If you want a cover page on your manuscript, drop down a third of the way on your first page, center your text with the justification command on the toolbar, and type the title of your book. Drop down again and write your byline. Go to the "Insert" menu and select "New Page." This will give you a page break and prepare you for Chapter One.
Type the title of your chapter. Before you begin writing, set up the page-numbering scheme for your book. Go to the "Format" menu and select the "Page" option, followed by "Numbering." Use the dialog box to set up the way you would like to number your pages. You can choose the position and style of the numbers, and you can choose not to number specific pages, such as your title page and the first page of each chapter.
Hit the enter key three times to begin writing your book. Write the text as you normally would. Your book manuscript is set up. At the end of each chapter, right after the last line, go to the "Insert" menu, select "New Page," and add the chapter title. When you've finished your book, use the "Tools" menu to proof your work with the spellcheck or Grammatik features.
Create a table of contents for your book. First go to the "Format" menu and select the "Paragraph" option, and then choose "Indent." Select the table of contents style you want for your book from the TOC dialog box that appears. Now go to the "Tools" menu, select "Reference," and choose "Table of Contents." Go through your manuscript and mark each of your chapter names as a TOC entry. These will then appear in your table of contents, along with their page numbers.
