The St. Paul Public Library system is home to several book clubs, including two at its downtown Central Library. There is a general interest fiction book club that meets the second Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m., as well as a history-focused library book club that meets the fourth Thursday of the month at 2 p.m. Both are open to new members.

Owned by local writer and humorist Garrison Keillor, Common Good Books is an independent book shop located in a basement below a popular coffee shop, Nina's, in St. Paul. Its book club, Common Good Book Club, meets on the third Monday of the month from 7 to 8 p.m to discuss a variety of works, both fiction and non-fiction.

A book club for adults to discuss children's literature, Chapter & Verse is held at five locations throughout the country, and is sponsored by each local bookstore as well as the Children's Literature Network. One edition of the club meets at the popular children's book store The Red Balloon, on St. Paul's lively Grand Avenue. The club meets the third Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and members receive a 20 percent discount off the book of the month.
