Navy Publications & Printing Regulations

If you work for the Navy, it is likely that at some point you may have to order a print job. You must also know what Navy publications have important information that can help you do your job well.
  1. Official Navy Publications

    • The Navy creates thousands of pages of printed materials each year, including everything from regulations, newsletters for current and retired employees, budgets, forms, and more. The publications that the ordinary sailor should know about include the Navy Uniform Regulations, the Navy Military Personnel Manual, and Navy Enlisted Manpower and Personnel Classifications and Occupational Standards. Each of these publications describes what is expected of you as a member of the Navy. They are all available on the Navy Personnel Command website (http://www.npc.navy.mil/).

    Why Read These Publications?

    • The Military Personnel Manual includes rules about many things, including how you are allowed to worship, how the Navy will evaluate your performance, and more. The Navy Occupational Standards describe the expectations for the specific job that you have.

Although these are long documents, it is a good idea to skim the Uniform Regulations and Personnel Manual and carefully read the section of the Occupational Standards that describes your job. It's helpful to know from the beginning what is expected of you in your job with the Navy.

    Printing Navy Materials

    • In your job with the Navy, you might need to print something, whether it's a long-term publication like the ones listed above or a handout for a training. You will send all of these print jobs to the Document Automation and Production Service (DAPS). DAPS provides printing services to the entire Department of Defense. It's important that you send documents through DAPS instead of your local copy shop. Their ordering services are secure, which may not be guaranteed at a non-military vendor.

    Available Printing Services

    • DAPS offers an array of services for printing documents, scanning and digitizing documents, and creating web content (including websites and online training). You can place orders online, and printing facilities are located around the world. If you are authorized, you can order and download any Navy form that you need. DAPS also stores electronic files of technical manuals, which are regularly updated, and you can order printed copies at any time.

    Why Use DAPS?

    • As a member of the Navy, it's important that you, and all other members of the military, use DAPS for printing. Their secure ordering and facilities ensure that the information you are printing stays safe. For more information, visit http://www.daps.dla.mil/index.html.
