How to Sell 500 Ebooks

In 93 percent of cases, publishers sell fewer than 1,000 copies of their books. If you're trying to sell your own ebook, it's important to keep this in mind. However, Internet sales open up a wider audience than selling offline and allow readers to download books automatically. For these reasons, selling 500 copies of your ebook is an ambitious yet achievable goal.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Edit and format your ebook for optimal readability. An ideal format for an ebook is about 5.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall (to fit comfortably on a computer screen), with 1-inch margins, double spacing and a 12 to 14 point font. The quality of your ebook and how easy it reads is key to generating continued sales. If you want to maximize your sales, PDF format is the ideal choice over other formats because PC, Mac and even some cell phone operating systems can open it.

    • 2

Sell the ebook to at least 10 of your close family members or friends. Ask them to refer the ebook to three people. This will get you started with as many as 40 purchases. These purchasers in turn may then also help spread word-of-mouth about your ebook to others to help you achieve the 500 sales mark.

    • 3

Solicit affiliates to help sell your ebooks. Ebook affiliate sellers will help push your book so you can reach the 500-book goal more quickly.

    • 4

Create a sales letter for your eBook to solicit sales. Hire a professional sales copy writer to craft this letter if you need help, as it is key to converting ebook sales from your website. Optimize the ebook sales site so that search engines will find it and send you more traffic.

    • 5

Post the ebook for sale on a major depository website in addition to your own personal website to increase traffic and exposure for your work. These websites take a percentage of each sale (and sometimes a monthly fee) in exchange for listing and helping to publicize your ebook.

    • 6

Offer a mini version of your ebook or a "special report" on the subject for free to entice potential customers. Once they see the value of your message, story or information, you may generate more sales for your main ebook to help you achieve 500 sales.
