Who is the antagonist of fern gully and why?

The main antagonist of FernGully: The Last Rainforest is Hexxus, a malevolent spirit of destruction and pollution. He is a dark, shadowy creature who was once a powerful force in the rainforest, but was defeated by the fairies and imprisoned in a tree. Hexxus is able to escape and wreak havoc on the rainforest, seeking revenge on the fairies and humans who imprisoned him. He plots to destroy the rainforest by releasing toxic chemicals into the air and water and corrupt the forest's magical tree, which is the source of life for the rainforest.
