How to Hang Pole Plant Stands

Pole plant stands are an effective alternative to growing plants in containers. For yards with limited space, you can hang your ornamental plants without taking up too much yard space. By growing vegetables, herbs or fruit in hanging pole plant stands, you can reduce the number of pests and wildlife damage inflicted on your edible plants. Hang pole plant stands to offer an attractive focal point to your landscaping and increase the other planting space in the yard.

Instructions

    • 1

Find an area of your yard or patio that fulfills the growing requirements of your plants. Plants have a variety of light requirements. Full sunlight is considered six hours of direct sun, partial shade is from six to three and shade less than three. Ask your nursery what type of sunlight your plant needs.

Choose a container that fits your pole plant stand. Make sure your container has draining holes that are at least half an inch in diameter.

    • 3

Fill your container with potting soil or soil based on your plants' growing requirements. Orchids should be grown in one part peat moss and perlite. You can also add a handful of compost to improve the soil's nutrients.

    • 4

Pick out a saucer to fit under the container and fit in the pole plant stand. If you are hanging the stand in a location that you do not mind getting wet, then you do not need the saucer.

Place a ladder underneath the porch or hanging area. Run a wall stud sensor across the wall to locate the wall studs. Drill a hole and screw in the hook. Hand the pole plant stand onto the hook.
