Type your story in your word processor. Keep the vocabulary simple and the sentences relatively short. Separate each "page" of your book by leaving a couple of spaces between each section.
Look back over each "page" of your story. On paper, draw an illustration lightly in pencil for each "page" of the story. Once you are satisfied with the image, go over the lines with a fine tipped marker and then erase any extra pencil lines. Put each picture into the scanner and scan them into your computer.
Open the image for page one in Adobe Photoshop. Click "Select" and "Select All." Click "Edit" and then "Copy." Go to the Channel's tab on the right side of the screen and select "New Channel." The channel will automatically name itself Alpha. Click "OK." Click "Edit" and "Paste."
Click "Layer" and then "New Layer." Name the layer Lines. Click "Select" and then "Load Selection." A menu will pop up; make sure to select "Alpha" and click "OK." Click "Select" again and this time "Inverse." Make sure black is set as your foreground color and then click "Edit" and "Fill." A duplicate image of your drawing should appear on this layer.
Select the background layer and click "Layer" and then "New Layer." Name this layer Color. Color in the picture using only this layer to do so. You will notice that you won't be coloring over any lines if you do it like this. Once the image is colored, save it as a JPG file as Page 01.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for each of the pages of your book, only changing the page name when you save each file.
Open Microsoft Publisher. Select "Blank Page Sizes" from the menu and then select the size you would like your book to be. Click "Create." Click "Insert" and then "Page." Type the number of pages your book is into the box. Click "OK."
Select the text for page one in your word processor and paste it onto page one of the Microsoft Publisher Document. Do this for each page of your book. Click "Insert," then "Picture," then "From File." Select the JPG you created earlier and saved as Page 01. Insert it onto page one. Resize the picture as necessary and rearrange the text as you see fit.
Do this for every page.
Click "File" and then "Save As." Save the file under the title of your book. Then select PDF as the file type to save it as.
