How to Cite With APA on Conference Papers

Man is a social animal. Clubs, associations, sodalities, leagues, guilds, federations, all are groups formed for social participation and specific interests. Researchers and professionals also form groups. These groups frequently hold conferences where members of the group can exchange information and new knowledge by presenting papers to conference attendees as a whole. If you are writing an essay, paper, thesis or article on information or knowledge presented in one of these conference papers, you will want to cite that paper correctly. Use APA (American Psychological Association) style if the organization you are writing for requires it.

Instructions

      Write the last name of the author followed by a comma and the initials of the author's first and middle name with a single space between them. For example, "Peevy, V. L."

      Write the year and month of the presentation of the paper within parentheses and separated by a comma. Place a period after the closing parenthesis. For example, "Peevy, V. L. (2011, December)."

      Write the title of the conference paper followed by a period. For example, "Peevy, V. L. (2011, December). Mermaid Quotients in the South Atlantic."

      Write the name of the organization that sponsored the conference, and the city and state where the conference was held. Use a two-letter abbreviation for the state. For example, "Peevy, V. L. (2011, December). Mermaid Quotients in the South Atlantic. Paper presented at the First Annual Meeting of the Argonauts Association, Clarinda, IA."
