Who were the Rutles?

The Rutles were a fictional English rock band created by Eric Idle and Neil Innes for the 1978 mockumentary film All You Need Is Cash. The film satirized the history of the Beatles, and the Rutles were portrayed as a parody of the Fab Four. The band's name is a play on "the Beatles," and their songs were pastiches of Beatles classics. The Rutles' lineup consisted of Idle as "Ron Nasty" (John Lennon), Innes as "Dirk McQuickly" (Paul McCartney), John Halsey as "Barry Wom" (George Harrison), and Ricky Fataar as "Stig O'Hara" (Ringo Starr). The band also featured appearances from other comedians and musicians, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Mick Jagger, and Paul Simon. The Rutles released two albums, The Rutles (1978) and Archaeology (1996), and their songs have been featured in several films and television shows. The band has been cited as an influence by a number of musicians, including Oasis and Blur.
