When you quote a source verbatim, you must put quotation marks around the copied material and include the author's name and the publication date in the citation. For example:
> "The sky is blue," said John Smith (2023).
When you paraphrase a source, you must put the information into your own words and then cite the original source. For example:
> According to John Smith (2023), the sky is blue.
In both cases, it is important to give credit to the original author by including a citation. Failing to do so is considered plagiarism.
