Would you ever find a fossil sponge?

Sponges are incredibly soft animals with no hard parts, so they do not typically fossilize. However, in rare cases, sponge spicules (tiny, needle-like structures that support the sponge's body) can be preserved as fossils. These spicules are made of silica or calcium carbonate and can be found in sedimentary rocks.
